LEEDS, Utah — One person died early Thursday morning after striking a horse that was on the road on I-15 in Washington County, authorities say.
The crash took place about 1:30 a.m. about 2 miles south of Leeds, according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol.
Troopers were in the process of responding to a report of horses on the road in the area, but before they could arrive, a black Hyundai Veloster that was traveling north hit a black horse that was in the left lane, according to the news release.
The horse collided with the car in the front on the driver’s side, which had major damage, the release states. The car traveled another half-mile before striking a cable barrier in the median just before the Leeds exit and coming to rest there, authorities said.
It appears the driver, who was alone in the car, died upon the impact, according to troopers. Authorities did not provide any identifying information, including gender or age, about the driver.
