SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – The operators of a BMX track in South Jordan are working to repair damage after someone vandalized the facility.
Raquel Wagner said her husband, Steve, discovered the damage Monday. Someone had apparently jumped a fence to get in.
Officials said the vandals smashed into two sheds, one containing about 20 rental bikes. They pulled all the bikes out of the shed and spread them across the property.
“They were strung all over the place. Stuck in bushes, thrown over the fence,” Wagner said. “We thought there was going to be a few that we would never see again and finally, with the help of some of the kids that came out, they found them in the bushes.”
They recovered all the rental bikes, but Wagner’s personal bike was still missing.
The vandals also smashed their way into an ice machine, then used the bags of ice to destroy motion-activated lights across the facility. They also shot pink paintballs at several buildings.
The vandalism was reported to the South Jordan Police Department.
“I don’t know what their intentions were. Was this something personal? Was it someone who didn’t know this was a place for a community of people to get together? For young kids to get started with a sport?” Wagner said. “I don’t know what their intentions were, but I sure don’t appreciate it.”
Anyone with information should call police at 801-840-4000.
