Church Announces Location For Layton Utah Temple

LAYTON, Utah – Over 15 months after The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced a second temple in Davis County, the location of the Layton Utah Temple has been released.

It a press release issued Monday, Church officials announced the temple will be built on an 11.8-acre site at the corner of Oak Hills Drive and Rosewood Lane. The new 87,000-square-foot structure will be located 16.5 miles north of the Bountiful Utah Temple, and just over 30 miles south of the Ogden Utah Temple.

The Layton temple will be the 17th-largest temple, and the 11th-largest in Utah. It will be the 19th temple constructed in the Beehive State.

Additional Utah temples have been announced for Saratoga Springs, Tooele Valley and Washington County.

The design of the Layton Utah Temple was still under development, though church officials anticipated a three-story building. A date for groundbreaking has not been announced.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints consider temples to be the “house of the Lord,” the most sacred places on earth. Unlike meetinghouses, where Sabbath worship and weekly activities take place, temples are open throughout the week and closed on Mondays and Sundays, according to ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
