Residents Return Home After Pinecrest Fire Evacuation Lifted

EMIGRATION CANYON, Utah – Residents returned home after the Pinecrest Fire forced evacuations Monday night.
The fire burned 10 acres, and containment is expected to begin early Tuesday afternoon.
“Roughly eight – 10 homes were evacuated,” said Unified Fire Authority’s Ryan Love. “Unified Police Department did a great job last night going door to door making sure those people got out.”

At 7 a.m., 100 firefighters hit the ground running to relieve the 45 crew members who worked overnight to keep the fire away from structures.
“Even though the fire is relatively small in size, we’re still really worried about the potential for spread being red flag today and having the last few days in the hundreds,” Love said. “It’s always a concern for us.”
Authorities said the biggest challenge has been the dry and rough terrain. The area is also is full of light, flashy fuels that are explosive.
The cause of the wildfire is still under investigation, but firefighters are warning the public about celebrating Pioneer Day with fireworks. They said people need to consider the risks and refrain from using them if there is any danger of a wildfire.
Fireworks are banned in Emigration Canyon.
