FIREWATCH: Dozens Of Fires Burning In Utah After Thunder Storms

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – There are dozens of new fires currently burning in Utah after several days of lightning.
The Paint Mine Fire has grown to 27,000 acres overnight, according to fire officials.
The wildfire, which is burning a few miles northwest of Nephi, has reached 35% containment, according to Utah Fire Info.

A number of agencies are working to protect homes, businesses and powerlines in the area.
In addition to Paint Mine, Central Utah has multiple fires burning, including the Park Ridge Fire, the River Breaks Fire, the Mammoth Fire, the Twin Peaks Fire, and the Skull Flat Fire.
The Alaska Fire, which is burning on the southern end of Provo, is at 65% containment. It’s burned nearly 500 acres and closed public access to trails until further notice.
The Bonneville Shoreline Trail is still open.
Officials said the fire is human-caused, and they are still investigating.
In Box Elder County, lightning has sparked roughly 30 fires in the past few days. Fire officials said more than half of those fires are contained to less than an acre in size.
However, there are two large fires crews are battling in the area. The Russel Fire is at 5,000 acres and the Curlew Fire has burned 4,500 acres.
In southeast Utah, the Poison Canyon Fire has burned 1100 acres, and the Peavine Canyon Fire has burned nearly 4,000 acres.
