PROVO, Utah – The BYU Honor Code Office on Wednesday announced it is making a change to the way it contacts students and tracks progress.
According to a statement, the office is using new software that will provide “secure communications so students will know why they’ve been asked to meet with an administrator before their scheduled appointment.”
Before the change, students would receive a phone call requesting that they schedule an appointment. The students would learn why they were asked to come to the Honor Code Office at the beginning of their first meeting. The new system will send students a message with a link to a more detailed letter.
That letter will include the reported misconduct and information about the student’s rights, according to the HCO statement.
“Our review of how we serve students showed the importance of clear communication from our office,” said Kevin Utt, Honor Code Office director. “This new system allows us to provide the details students want to know up front while still protecting student privacy.”
