RIVERDALE, Utah – Two Riverdale residents are alive and well after their home caught fire overnight and the one being credited with saving their lives is their pet dog, Karyzma
The Riverdale Fire Department responded to a call at this home just before 4 a.m. A neighbor says he actually gave the dog to the family, after she was a bit too hyper for his kids.
Half the home was engulfed in flames when the fire department arrived and they say the smoke detector did not activate, and are giving the family’s dog all of the credit for waking them. Their neighbor agrees.
“The dog came in jumping on the bed to wake them up. Which if she hadn’t, you know, they would have perished. The dog absolutely gave her life to save her parent’s lives. Absolutely,” neighbor Jacob Williams said.
Officials said they found Karyzma, a German Shepard mix, inside the home, overcome by the smoke.
The fire department believes the home is a total loss, and says the Red Cross is helping the family with a place to stay.
The cause is under investigation.
