BOUNTIFUL, Utah – A Bountiful family is feeling very lucky to be alive after a quick moving wildfire came within feet of their home.
That fire destroyed their shed and a neighbors home that can be seen from the backyard of their home.
The Gun Range Fire broke out at about 1 a.m. on Friday morning. The Albertine family said it was their dog that sounded the alarm by barking, which woke them up.
“We saw flames in the tall grass of the backyard,” Erik Albertine told KSL. “We knew we needed to get out of here, so we got the kids up got them dressed and grabbed some of the most precious things and got out of here.”
Alysa Albertine, Erik Albertine’s wife, said, “As we were pulling away we saw flames in our backyard.”
The family thought when they returned their home was going to be gone.
“I can’t believe [the firefighters] stopped it where they did. It’s amazing on the fire crews part,” said Alysa Albertine.
A house behind their home is one of three homes destroyed by the fire and the Albertines shed was one of several structures that were damaged or destroyed.
“Feel very lucky that it wasn’t more,” said Erik Albertine. “It could have been so much worse. We can’t thank [the firefighters] enough.”
