LAKE POINT, Utah – A brush fire has burned an estimated 1,000 acres near Lake Point in Tooele County.

Flames quickly spread across at least 1,000 acres Tuesday as the newly-named “Green Ravine Fire” sparked into a formidable fight for fire teams.

North Tooele Fire District spokesman Jon Smith said the fire was first reported around 1:30 p.m., and it quickly fanned over the hillside above Lake Point.

“When you see that much smoke in the air and you see fire grow that quickly, it gets your attention,” Smith said.

Firefighters were soon aided by several aircraft in their fight as they battled the blaze into the night.

As of 8:30 p.m., crews said the fire was 0% contained at 1,000 acres.

More resources were expected on scene Wednesday.

The fire was human-caused, according to officials.

The fire drew spectators in several neighborhoods.

Brayden Waters scaled a rock pile behind his home to gain a better perspective.

“It’s amazing — I’ve seen two small planes, great big jumbo airliners in here,” Waters said. “It makes you thankful and grateful that we have the resources.”

Smith said the fire did not pose a significant threat to homes.

“It’s sad to see it happen,” Waters said. “The good news is everyone’s safe so far. That’s all that matters.”
