SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah – Officials with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the groundbreaking for the Saratoga Springs temple will take place on Oct. 19.
Attendance is by invitation only and members of the public are invited to view the proceedings live from local church meetinghouses, according to officials.
The building was announced in 2017 by then-Latter-day Saint President Thomas S. Monson. It will be located in the Beacon Pointe subdivision, near Redwood Drive and Meadow Side Drive.
Latter-day Saints consider temples to be houses of the Lord that are different from meetinghouses or chapels where congregations gather for weekly services.
Plans currently call for a three-story building of approximately 87,000 square feet in Saratoga Springs.
Officials said a 21,000-square-foot meetinghouse will be built on adjacent land.
According to statistics from the Church, over two million Latter-day Saints live in Utah. The state currently has 17 temples. Thirteen have been completed and four – including the one in Saratoga Springs – have been announced, are under construction or are being remodeled.
