SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Highway Patrol responded to two fatal incidents on Utah roads Friday morning.

The first happened at approximately 3:15 a.m. in Carbon County on state Route 6 at milepost 226 in Price Canyon, according to UHP.

A tractor-trailer was traveling westbound when it attempted to pass a slower tractor-trailer in a no-passing zone on a grade and on a corner, according to a UHP statement. It then collided head-on with a Ford F-350 traveling eastbound. The driver of the pickup died at the scene.

SR-6 was closed as authorities investigated, and traffic was diverted onto Emma Park Road and state Route 191.

The second incident happened just before 6 a.m. on northbound I-15 in Orem.

According to UHP, dispatch received a call of a body lying in the road under the overpass at milepost 269. When troopers responded, they found a man in his early 20s deceased at the scene.

“It appears that the individual may have jumped from the 269 structure, where he was struck by several vehicles traveling northbound,” according to a UHP statement. “At this point, we have no witnesses to the event.”

Traffic was backed up throughout the morning as authorities investigated.
