FARMINGTON, Utah – The Layton man with a history of stalking women for the last decade has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Chad Dee Flitton was in court Friday for his initial appearance at the 2nd District Court in Farmington.

The 44-year-old was taken into custody on felony charges for allegedly stalking teenage girls. In the courtroom, Flitton waived his right to a preliminary hearing and was scheduled to have an arraignment in October.

Earlier this week, prosecutors charged Flitton with second-degree felony for stalking with two prior convictions. The latest charges stemmed from allegations he followed multiple young girls at the Harmons in Farmington.

Back in July, the group of 14-year-old girls told police that Flitton followed them into an elevator, and at one point mumbled something about “sex” and later followed them to the restroom.

According to court records, over the past decade Flitton has faced multiple misdemeanor charges, including charges for stalking and sexual battery.

During Friday’s hearing, prosecutors argued he is a threat to the community and a flight risk.

“This is an individual whose history demonstrates an unwillingness to respond to law enforcement, unwillingness to obey or comply with court orders, an a propensity to engage in stalking and other sexual related offenses,” they told the judge.

The state asked the court for a $50,000 bail and several “no contact” orders, which were granted, with the possibility of a bail hearing at a later date.

The arraignment hearing was scheduled for Oct. 9 at 9 a.m.
