PORTLAND, Oregon – Newly released surveillance video show a powerful moment- a coach embracing a student who he just disarmed.
The teen brought a loaded shotgun to Parkrose High School back in May.
The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office released the surveillance video, which shows security guard and football coach Keanon Lowe disarming student Angel Granados-Diaz.
The two hug before police move in to arrest Granados-Diaz.
The then 18-year-old student walked into the school with a shotgun hidden in his arms.
Lowe found Granados-Diaz in a bathroom with the gun and was able to separate the student from the weapon.
Police say the teen was suicidal and did not have the intent to hurt anyone other than himself while at the school.
Granados-Diaz was sentenced to 36 months of probation and immediate treatment for mental health and substance abuse.
