LOGAN, Utah — Authorities said the body of a 19-year-old Utah State University student has been found.
Police said hunters in Logan Canyon on Wednesday evening discovered the body of Baxter Franklin King. He was last seen on Oct. 14 and last texted another individual on Oct. 17.
The Cache County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death. A USU spokesman said no foul play is suspected.
On Wednesday night, volunteers walked the neighborhoods surrounding Clearfield High School, knocking on doors and searching for King.
“I have known Baxter since he was very tiny,” Terri Strawn said with a missing person flyer in hand. “He is very animated, very quiet, sweet and tender-hearted. It breaks my heart because if it was my child was missing, I wouldn’t know what to do.”
King’s family members said they weren’t expecting him in the Clearfield area this week, but that is where his phone was last pinged.
“He graduated from Clearfield High. This is a really special place for him — he was really active in school activities,” Strawn said.
USU spokesperson Tim Vitale said King hadn’t shown up to work and that was very unusual behavior for him.
“Friends and family all said it was odd of him to not have been in contact with them for so long,” Vitale said.
