WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Police are looking for the attackers after a man was stabbed to death Thursday evening.
Authorities on Friday identified the victim as Treyvon Stephens, 19. They said they are still looking for two outstanding suspects who they believe knew the victim.
The incident happened Oct. 24 shortly before 8:15 p.m. at the Redwood Apartments located near 4000 South and Redwood Road. Police said Stephens did not live at the apartment complex but often stayed there with his friends.
West Valley City Police Lt. Steve Burke said when officers arrived on scene, they found Stephens suffering from a stab wound. First responders attempted life-saving aid, but he succumbed to his injuries.
“My neighbors were out, and they were like, ‘Oh, we think there was a murder,'” said Redwood Apartments resident Sara Diaz.
WVCPD Lt. M.T. Johnson said some sort of altercation happened at a different apartment before the stabbing. Stephens was reportedly stabbed in the parking lot before running into a friend’s apartment. Two men who were known to the victim fled the scene, and police said they believe all three were spending time together earlier in the day.
Johnson said the outstanding suspects are considered dangerous.
“They’re still out and about,” Diaz said. “So, I mean, that part is unsettling.”
Authorities don’t have a description for the perpetrators, but they were seen driving away in a newer-model white passenger vehicle, possibly a white Toyota Corolla.
Anyone with information about who Stephens was with before he was killed is asked to contact the West Valley City Police Department at 801-840-4000.
