RIVERDALE, Utah – A Utah woman said she still doesn’t know what she did to provoke an apparent road rage incident that left her severely injured and unconscious last month in the middle of a major road.
Toni Blazvick said she and her husband were driving east on Riverdale Road near 1200 West when they heard some honking. A car then quickly pulled in front of them and stopped at the red light. The driver of that car then got out and started walking towards them.
“I thought maybe he was going to tell me my gas tank was open,” Blazvick said. “I rolled down my window and as it rolled down he said, ‘I’m not honking at you’ with an un-nice name and proceeded to punch me in the face.”
Blazvick doesn’t remember what happened after that but witnesses did.
A police report said, “…as the victim exited her vehicle, the suspect hit the victim in the face with a closed fist causing the victim to go unconscious. Several citizens pulled the suspect off of the victim…”
Blazvick said the attack left her with bruises on her face, seven stitches on her knee and a broken elbow. She also has major anxiety when she drives alone.
“I had surgery a week ago which was probably the worst pain I’ve experienced in my life,” Blazvick said. “It’s definitely altered my life, affected my family, affected my job.”
And she said she still has no idea what prompted the attack.
“I wish I knew why he did it because then it would make sense. But that’s the hard part about it. I have absolutely no idea,” Blazvick said.
Toni’s husband, Rodman, was in the passenger seat but said it all happened too fast before he could stop it.
“To see her laid out like that, it was hard to see,” he said. “I wanted to protect her. I wanted to be able to help her. After the fact, I think the hardest part was feeling helpless like I wasn’t able to do that.”
The suspect was identified as 49-year-old Taufiq Shah. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
