Man Killed While Making Explosive Device In Southern Utah

NEW HARMONY, Utah – A Washington County man was killed while making an explosive device, according to officials.
Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home near 400 North Harmony Drive in New Harmony, about 40 miles north of St. George.
When they arrived on the scene just after 8 p.m. Saturday, they found the body of a man in his 20s.
Officials said they believed the man was killed in some kind of explosion inside the garage of the residence. Members of the bomb squad were dispatched to the home to investigate and determine what led to the explosion.
Residents of a nearby home were evacuated until investigators could determine the scene was safe.
The man’s name was not released, pending the notification of his family.
According to the Associated Press, no other explosive devices were found at the scene. They reported the man was previously known to officers, and they found no evidence indicating a possible target for the device.
