West Jordan Homeowner Speaks About Garage Shooting That Killed Two

WEST JORDAN, Utah — Officials with the West Jordan Police Department have identified the two men who died after a shooting in a West Jordan garage Sunday.

The victims were identified Monday as 27-year-old Terrence Nielsen of Alabama and 29-year-old Utahn Anthony Dawson.

Both men were shot and killed Sunday night inside the garage of a home near 7100 South Callie Drive in West Jordan.

Homeowner Kourtnee Jacob said she and her family were inside the house when she heard two gunshots in the garage.

Jacob said she ran outside to find both men had been shot in the head.

Police are still investigating whether the incident was a murder-suicide or a double murder. They only found one gun at the scene and don’t believe anyone else is involved.

Jacob was devastated by the crime. She said Nielsen had become her friend over the past few months.

“He was soft-spoken, tall, a beautiful soul and he could sing like no other,” she said.

Jacob said when she met Nielsen, he was living in his car. She offered to help him out, giving him a warm place to stay while he found a job, got his own housing and applied to college.

“He fell on hard times. He lost a job. He had nowhere to go,” Jacob said. “I was helping him get back on his feet. It was a temporary situation. He was doing really good.”

Jacob said she didn’t know much about Dawson but said the men were friends. She also said they had just gotten pizza and were laughing together shortly before the shooting.

Jacob said police searched the garage and the house but didn’t find drugs or alcohol.

She still can’t believe what happened but wanted people to know that Nielsen was a good person.

“He was just big-hearted and sweet and he was good with my kids,” Jacob said. “He was good with everybody.”
