SANDY, Utah – The Canyons School District is taking steps to educate parents on recognizing the signs that their teen may be vaping.
Jordan High School’s auditorium was packed Wednesday night as the district ramped up efforts to arm families with information.
District officials are implementing three initiatives to combat teen vaping: looking into installing restroom detection devices, offering early intervention programs, and holding events for parents to hear from experts about the dangers of vaping.
“My hope is that parents will be more aware of what their students are doing, what their children are doing, and that they know where to go for help,” said Jordan High School Principal Wendy Dau.
The early intervention program will be available through the district’s Family Center, and it’s for both parents and students to get the the help they need.
As for the restroom devices, there hasn’t been a set timeline as to when they’ll be installed. District officials said they are making those plans now.
