SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Students at West High School made their voices heard in September after Principal Ford White was placed on paid administrative leave.
White, who has served as principal since 2017, was put on leave after he drove intoxicated students home instead of following district protocol and contacting police.
He still remains on leave, and interim Principal Stacey Briggs on Tuesday stepped in to take his place. She was introduced to faculty on Monday.
Briggs has more than 20 years experience as an educator. She’s has worked at seven different schools and is a former math teacher, Spanish teacher, and principal for both a junior high school and a high school.
Her most recent position has been the director of Focus Schools in the Salt Lake School District since 2018.
“I am confident Mrs. Briggs can provide strong leadership at this time,” according to an email from Superintendent Lexi Cunningham. “She shares my commitment to providing our West High School students with equitable educational opportunities to prepare them for a promising future, and I hope you’ll take the time to get to know her.”
