WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Police arrested a man after he allegedly entered a home while the residents were asleep, woke them up at gunpoint and demanded alcohol.
Police said the suspect also pistol whipped one of the residents and discharged the firearm before fleeing the scene.
West Valley City Police Lt. Shane Matheson said Jerry Alacarez, 39, of West Valley City, entered the home shortly before 11:45 p.m. Monday. He is an acquaintance of the residents.
One of the victims said he awoke to find Alacarez pointing a gun at him and demanding alcohol. When the victim was slow to react to the demands, Alacarez then reportedly pistol whipped him. The victim’s roommate then attempted to calm the suspect down by taking him outside to talk to him, police said.
Matheson said the two were sitting in a vehicle when Alacarez fired the handgun. The suspect then left the scene in his own vehicle.
Luckily, the bullet did not hit anyone.
The first victim was treated on the scene for minor injuries. The second victim had no injuries.
Police later arrested Alacarez on suspicion of aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a restricted person, discharging a firearm, and intoxication.
