SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Millions of packages are set to be delivered before Christmas, but a new report shows a good chunk of those might get stolen.
According to C+R Research, an average of 36% Americans reported having a package stolen at least once from their front doors. The average cost to replace those stolen items is $109.
Nearly half of the survey respondents said they receive some type of package on a weekly basis, according to the report.
The study also found that of the people who reported having a package stolen, 83% said they contacted the seller or Amazon immediately, and 13% contacted the police first. Only 11% said the porch pirate was caught, but 73% said they eventually received a refund.
Experts suggest having packages delivered while you’re home, or have them delivered to your workplace or a secure location such as an Amazon Locker or the post office.
