SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Two residents of a senior living center, and two firefighters were taken to the hospital after chemical exposure.
“They were in good condition, and the transports were mostly precautionary,” Captian Adam Archuleta of Salt Lake City Fire Deparment said.
Crews responded to a household chemical exposure incident at Rendon Terrace Apartments, 158 N 600 W., according to Salt Lake City Fire Department. It was initially reported to be a response to a fire.
SLC Fire reports this is a hazmat exposure incident.
“Update, no fire, household chemical exposure,” SLC Fire tweeted.

Archuleta said the senior living center was evacuated after a home pesticide cartridge was detonated.
“The cartridge had far too much product, and it set off the smoke alarm, alerting the fire department,” Archuleta said.
The building was evacuated as the pesticide got into the vents, he said.
Evacuees will be allowed in after ventilation, likely sometime this evening, according to Archuleta. Some residents are with family, or will be sheltered in the Missiodei Church across the street.
Archuleta said they’re still waiting to know exactly what the substance is so they know what readings they’re looking for to confirm effective ventilation.
