SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah – One person was injured in an overnight auto-pedestrian crash involving a pickup truck and a man in a wheelchair, police said.
The crash happened in the area of 3300 South and 300 West just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
South Salt Lake Police Lt. Gregg Carlson said the truck, which was equipped with a plow, was traveling north on 300 West when it hit the man in the wheelchair in the road. The driver of the truck, who Carlson identified as an adult male, pulled over and called police immediately.
The driver said the man was not in a crosswalk, and he didn’t see the pedestrian until it was too late.
The pedestrian, who authorities said is 43 years old, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, Carlson said. No other injuries were reported.
The driver is cooperating with investigators, SSLPD Public Information Officer Gary Keller said. Impairment is not believed to have been a factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
