Sandy Bicyclist Critically Injured After Being Struck By Van

SANDY, Utah – A 66-year-old bicyclist was critically injured after being struck by a van, according to officials with the Sandy Police Department.
Lieutenant Jason Nielsen said the crash happened near 15 East Pioneer Avenue around 6:15 p.m. Thursday.
Nielsen said the “Sprinter-type” van was traveling southbound on State Street when it went to turn left onto Pioneer Avenue and struck the man, who was traveling northbound on State Street on his bike.
Police said the bicyclist’s injuries were serious and the van’s driver is cooperating with authorities.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to Nielsen.
