OREM, Utah – A firefighter with the Orem Fire Department suffered minor injuries when a pickup truck struck an ambulance that was responding to a crash on Interstate 15.
Officials said the crash happened around 5:30 a.m. Monday near University Parkway on southbound I-15.
Two firefighters were staffing the ambulance that responded to the original crash and Orem Fire Battalion Chief Shawn Hirst said one firefighter had already gotten out of the ambulance when a Ford pickup truck hit the ambulance.
The firefighter seated in the driver’s seat suffered minor injuries and was treated for whiplash and later released, according to Hirst.
Officials asked drivers to slow down during inclement weather, which can present one of the most dangerous situations for first responders to operate in.
No injuries were reported for the second firefighter or the driver of the pickup truck.
