SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Formerly conjoined twins from Utah say they’ve found their voices as advocates for inclusion after making international headlines for surviving a dangerous separation surgery.
The Deseret News reported Maliyah and Kendra Herrin were born conjoined at their abdomens and shared a pelvis, kidney and liver and each controlled one leg before a medical team separated them at a Salt Lake City hospital in 2006.
The twins are now 17 and encourage people to ask questions. They say it helps that they can easily talk about their physical limitations, their surgeries and their lives.
They support initiatives that spread anti-bullying messages and advocate for those with disabilities.
