Safe in 60: What To Do If You’re Involved In A Fender Bender

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah – The number of fender benders goes up quickly during winter snowstorms. If you are involved in a minor crash, there are things to remember to keep you and other motorists safe.
You are legally obligated to remain at the scene of the crash until directed by police to leave. Not sticking around could leave you with a suspended or revoked license, a hefty fine and even jail time.
If there are no injuries and the vehicles are both drivable, pull to the side of the road or exit the freeway to somewhere safe before you get out of your car.
Activate your hazard lights.
Call police – even if the accident is minor, it’s appropriate to call 911.
Gather up your registration and insurance information. You’ll need to share that information with police and other drivers involved in the accident.
While you wait for police to arrive, it’s a good idea to take photos of any damage to both vehicles if it’s safe to do so.
Notify your insurance agent.
If you witness an accident, please either stay on scene or leave your contact information with police. An independent witness is extremely helpful when it comes to details of the accident and determining fault.
