SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A suspect was taken into custody after police said he violated a protective order and fled the scene once they showed up. In his attempt to flee the area, he slammed into the stone wall of a nearby business.
Officials with the Salt Lake City Police Department said 22-year-old Christian McMahon showed up to his ex-girlfriend’s Salt Lake City house Thursday morning.
After speaking with the woman, police believed McMahon intended to harm her.
The officers said when they arrived at the home, McMahon got in his truck and took off. They decided not to pursue due to the icy road conditions.
“Instant Karma’s Gonna Get Ya!” When you show up to an x-flame’s house with the intent to do harm, but flee when police are arriving, only to crash around the corner because of icy roads…oof. Police knew not to pursue because of the roads. #busted pic.twitter.com/n8hOUXzepL

As he was leaving the area at a high rate of speed, he lost control of the vehicle and slid off the road. He later crashed into the Machinery Consultants building around the corner on 1390 West 200 South.
As additional officers came upon the scene, they saw the truck and quickly took McMahon into custody.
McMahon was arrested and booked into jail.
He faced charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence, fleeing from police, resisting arrest, and violating a protective order, among other charges.
The Salt Lake Police Twitter page credited Karma for McMahon’s bad luck on the icy roads.
“When you show up to an x-flame’s house with the intent to do harm, but flee when police are arriving, only to crash around the corner because of icy roads…oof,” the post said.
Christian McMahon, 22, was booked in jail for charges including aggravated burglary/DV, aggravated assault/DV, unlawful detention/DV, violation of protective order, felony fleeing, resisting arrest, and negligent collision.
