$100K In Gear Stolen From Utah Family’s Car

LEHI, Utah – A Utah County family lost around $100,000 worth of electronic gear after their car was broken into, putting a husband and father out of work, at least temporarily.

The past 24 hours haven’t been easy for Tyson Henderson and his family. Tyson is a YouTuber in his off-time, and a videographer/creative director full-time.

Henderson said his car was broken into Monday night while he was at Top Golf off 7200 South in Midvale with some friends.

He said his source for multiple streams of family income is gone, putting all of his work on hold.

“(I) walked out at about 8:30 p.m. My window was smashed in, and immediately I was just like, ‘Oh, no. My car window’s broken,'” Henderson said. “Then as I got closer, I realized, ‘Oh, no. My camera bag is gone.'”

Inside that camera bag, Henderson said he had two cameras, a laptop, multiple lenses, and hard drives containing many hours of family video, shot in part for the YouTube channel that he and his wife, Hayley, maintain.

“Last night, he walked in the doors, completely empty handed, and it broke my heart,” Hayley said. “It was so sad, just to think that everything he’s worked so hard for was just gone so fast.”

In addition to family videos, Tyson said he lost projects that he was working on for clients.

“I do a lot of freelance work for companies all over, and a lot of that work was in those drives,” Tyson said. “I had to reach out to a few clients today, and say, ‘Guys, that footage I just shot is gone.'”

Sergeant Melody Gray with the Unified Police Department confirmed that officers have begun an investigation into the break-in, but said surveillance video from the Top Golf and nearby Maverik were both far away, making it tough to identify the car, or the person, who smashed Henderson’s back window.

Out of a very sad turn of events for their family, however, the Hendersons said at least one good thing has come from the ordeal. Many of their followers on Instagram have offered to keep an eye out for the stolen items on the internet and in pawn shops.

“It’s really nice in that aspect, just to see how many people care, and can come together in a community in such a short amount of time,” Hayley said.

“We’ve had an amazing support system,” Tyson said. “There’s a lot of really good people out there. There’s just a handful of bad ones that are just taking advantage of other people’s situations.”

Tyson Henderson has posted a list of what was stolen on his Instagram page: tysonjhenderson. Some of the items include:

  • Canon 1X Mark II
  • Panasonic GH5
  • Canon 70-200mm lens
  • Canon 16-35 lens
  • Canon 24-70 lens
  • 15″ Apple Macbook Pro
