BOUNTIFUL, Utah – A man was rescued after falling through the ice on a Bountiful pond, according to South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jeff Bassett.
The man was walking his dog Thursday night near the pond at 1358 Shoreline Drive when his canine ran onto the ice chasing ducks.
Bassett said the man fell through the ice after chasing after his pet, who had become stuck on the ice.
A bystander called 911 and threw the man a rope to help him get out of the water. Firefighters arrived on scene shortly after and assisted the bystander to pull the man from the water.
Bassett said the man suffered minor injuries and was possibly suffering from hypothermia.
Officials said the dog was off the ice and uninjured; crews were working to corral him.
