BRIGHAM CITY, Utah – Officers with the Brigham City Police Department said they are searching for vandals who shot out the windows of nine cars across the city.
However, police said they have very little information to go on due to a lack of surveillance video.
Alaina Menlove said not only was her son’s side window shattered, but there were also a few ding marks from a BB gun on the body of the car as well.
“He sent me a text and said, ‘mom, someone shot my window out,’ and I said ‘what?’ Menlove said. “He sent me a picture and his whole driver-side window was shattered. They shot his window, they shot his fender, his hood and his back fender…so I called the police.”
Police said similar incidents have occurred over the last two nights on the northeast and southeast ends of town.

Resident Julie May said she didn’t realize what the damage to her windshield was until after work the next day.
“I don’t know why they would do that,” she said. “What kind of sense of pleasure are they getting out of this? It’s irritating.”
Then, there’s the dent on the side of her car.
“It makes me lose faith in humanity, in people,” May said. “Why would you do this?”
Menlove said one of her sons heard some commotion around 3 a.m. Sunday, but thought it was part of a movie that he was watching.
“About three o’clock in the morning, he heard a ‘pew, pew, pew, pew,'” she said. “Thought it was the movie he was watching, looked out the window (and) couldn’t see anything, but we figure that’s probably the time they drove past our house and shot the car.”
Brigham City police said overall, nine cars were damaged.
Menlove said it will cost about $300 just to fix the window — not to mention the dents and chipped paint on her son’s car.
“It’s just very frustrating,” she said. “My son has to pay for that out of his pocket and he’s planning for a wedding, and so this is coming out of his wedding budget.”
Those cleaning up the mess asked the vandals to please stop it.
“It’s just really dumb,” May said. “I mean if you’ve got that much time on your hands, get a job.”
“If your kid’s doing this, don’t,” Menlove added. “It’s not funny. It’s not anything to brag about, ‘yeah, I went around and shot some cars.’ That will get you in trouble. That’s damage, that’s a record.”
Police currently do not have any kind of suspect or vehicle description. Anyone who saw something or has surveillance video was asked to contact the Brigham City Police Department.
