CEDAR CITY, Utah – Utah Highway Patrol troopers seized thousands of THC vape cartridges during a traffic stop on I-15 Wednesday, authorities said.
According to the UHP, a trooper pulled over a Chrysler traveling northbound at mile marker 62 just before midnight. The driver of the vehicle was reportedly speeding and failed to signal during a lane change.
There were two occupants in the vehicle.
“An odor of cannabis was present in the vehicle and it was determined that neither occupant could prove to be in lawful possession of cannabis under the Utah Medical Cannabis Act,” according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol.
The driver granted the trooper consent to search the vehicle, the statement reads, and the trooper discovered 2,149 THC vape cartridges and nearly four pounds of THC shatter — a form of cannabis extract that’s been concentrated into a translucent substance.
Both the driver and the passenger of the Chrysler were arrested on suspicion of smuggling, distributing and possessing unlawful cannabis.
