Driver Arrested For Assault Of Officer After West Jordan Crash

WEST JORDAN, Utah – A man faced multiple charges after officials said he assaulted police officer when being taken into custody in Salt Lake County.
The incident happened Friday shortly before 4 p.m. when investigators said there was a crash on Sugar Factory Road and Redwood Road in West Jordan.
Officials said a driver later identified as 24-year-old Luis Meza rear-ended another vehicle and then drove away.
Witnesses were able to get Meza’s license plate number and a description.
Police eventually found Meza and took him into custody on charges of leaving the scene of a crash and driving on a suspended license.
As he was being detained, officials said he found against the officer, who sustained “minor injuries in the scuffle.”
Meza was restrained and taken to jail, where he faced additional charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer.
Officials said the police officer was examined at the scene and clears by emergency medical technicians.
