Intruder Armed With Knife Shot, Killed At Brazil MTC, Officials Say
SAO PAULO, Brazil – A man armed with a knife entered The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints missionary training center in Brazil on Wednesday and was shot and killed after attempting to attack police, a Church official said.
Nei Garcia, Brazil area director of public affairs, said the individual was being detained near the reception desk of the facility when he attempted to attack authorities. Police then shot and killed him. No missionaries or MTC staff were harmed.
Garcia said the families of all the missionaries and staff are being informed, and support will be offered to anyone who needs it. MTC officials are working with local authorities during the investigation.
“We are grateful for the prayers and support that have been offered at this time both for the missionaries and the family of the individual who was killed,” Garcia said.
