WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Police were investigating the circumstances behind a death after witnesses said they heard shots fired and then spotted a man down in the road.
Officers and other first-responders arrived to the scene at 6400 S. Wakefield Way just after 6 p.m. Wednesday and performed CPR on the man, but could not revive him, West Valley City Police Deputy Chief Kent Stokes said.
The suspect was later identified as 20-year-old Manuel Andres Martinez.
Stokes said the 20-year-old appeared to have wounds, and detectives were taking a closer look at those injuries.
According to investigators, witnesses said they saw Martinez down in the street, and a car appeared to be speeding away.
Stokes said detectives were looking into whether he was dumped in the road as they put together a timeline of events.
