Body Camera Captures Wild Police Chase In West Valley

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – A wild police chase through West Valley City was all caught on an officer’s body camera.

That video, which came from a Jan. 29 chase, was just released to KSL TV on Tuesday.

It started with a simple call from a driver who said his truck was stolen in the Salt Lake area. Officers with the West Valley City Police Department were able to track the truck down using GPS and began pursuing it.

The officer tried to pull the truck over, but the driver, identified as 21-year-old Hector Fernando de la Rosa, drove into her patrol vehicle.

“He just rammed my car…he just rammed my car,” the officer said over the radio.

That officer was joined by six others, all trying to get the man to stop. But the driver refused to pull over. Eventually, police ended the chase for safety reasons but started it up again and spiked the truck’s tires.

At one point, the first officer jumped out of a patrol car with her gun drawn and ordered the man out of the truck. The driver refused to get out and took off again, driving on nothing but the truck’s rims.

The chase finally came to an end near 4100 South and 5600 West and the driver jumped out of the truck. The officer ordered him to the ground with her gun pulled, but the driver took off running instead.

However, he wasn’t quick enough to outrun the officer, who eventually tackled him to the ground.

Police said the suspect ended up ramming into three vehicles, including two patrol cars.
