MORONI, Utah – A “Do Not Drink” order has been issued for residents in Moroni. Officials have warned that children under six months of age should not be given tap water or drink anything prepared with tap water.
The order was issued around 3 p.m. Wednesday in Moroni.
According to a notice sent out by Moroni City, “a mechanical failure to one of the two sources serving Moroni City resulted in a water in excess of nitrate.”

Officials with the Department of Environmental Quality said elevated nitrates can have fatal consequences for children under six months, but adults and children older than six months can process nitrates.
They urged residents not to boil the water, as it doesn’t reduce the nitrate levels.
Adults and children older than six months can drink the tap water (nitrate is a concern for infants because they can’t process nitrates in the same way adults can). However, if you are pregnant or have specific health concerns, you may wish to consult your doctor.

The notice continued, “Moroni City is working around the clock to repair the broken source. Prior to removing this do not drink order Moroni will take water samples to ensure drinking water meets state and federal health standards. Moroni is working with state and county agencies to correct this problem.”
Bottled water was made available at City Hall located at 80 South 200 West.
