CEDAR CITY, Utah – A 3-year-old child was killed in a rollover crash on Interstate 15 north of Cedar City, according to officials with the Utah Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the child was not properly restrained when the crash occurred Sunday around 3 p.m.
The child began to cry and officials said the vehicle, a 1993 Toyota 4-Runner, began to drift onto the right shoulder as the driver reached back to give the child a bottle.
The driver then attempted to correct the vehicle and crossed the roadway, hitting the guardrail.
Troopers said the vehicle then rolled and the child died after being ejected from the Toyota.
A female passenger in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was transported to Dixie Regional Hospital. The driver suffered minor injuries.
Both the driver and passenger were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, according to troopers.
