SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – An Orem man was killed in a crash on state Route 201 near 900 West, according to officials with the Utah Highway Patrol.
The man was later identified as 25-year-old Dillon Ashy.
Troopers said the man was driving a white Aston Martin on Saturday and witnesses estimated the car was traveling over 100 mph in a 65 mph zone with 50 mph advisory signs in the area.
The Aston Martin lost control after sideswiping a semitrailer and hit the concrete barrier on the right shoulder, according to UHP Corporal Colton Freckleton. It then came back into traffic and hit another car.
The victim was wearing his seat belt, but the strap was torn and the man was ejected sometime as the Aston Martin hit the barrier. The roof of the car was scraped off from the impact with the barrier, Freckleton said.
Eastbound S.R. 201 was closed while troopers investigated the scene. It was estimated to reopen at 3:30 p.m.
“The Utah Highway Patrol is still enforcing speed limits throughout the state and asks drivers to slow down and get rid of any distractions,” troopers said in a statement.
