Navajo Nation Reports 3 More Coronavirus Deaths, 121 New Cases

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The Navajo Nation reported 3 more coronavirus-related deaths and 121 new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 1,042.
Those numbers were released by the Navajo Department of Health and Navajo Area Indian Health Service Thursday afternoon.
A total of 41 deaths have been reported.
The Navajo County in Arizona has reported the most number of cases with 306. In San Juan County, Utah, 12 people have tested positive.
The number of coronavirus cases in the other Navajo counties were reported as follows:
- Apache County, AZ: 147
- Coconino County, AZ: 199
- McKinley County, NM: 203
- San Juan County, NM: 140
- Cibola County, NM: 13
- Socorro County, NM: 10
- Sandoval County, NM: 12
Navajo Nation officials also issued a new Public Health Emergency Order, extending the 57-hour weekend curfew for two more weekends in April. Essential businesses have also been closed during weekend curfews to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The first weekend curfew will begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17 and end at 5:00 a.m. (MDT) on Monday, April 20. The second weekend curfew will start at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24 and end at 5:00 a.m. (MDT) on Monday, April 27.
“Now is the time to prepare for the weekend curfew. If you have everything you need, stay home,” said Jonathan Nez, Najavo Nation president. “If you need groceries, medication, or other essential items, send one person to the store of wherever they need to go, and please use masks and protective gloves, and wash or sanitize your hands as much as possible.
The daily curfew remains in effect from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Najavo Police officers have been issuing citations for individuals who violate the curfew.
