SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – A 56-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash, according to officials with the South Jordan Police Department.
Sergeant Samuel Winkler said emergency crews responded to the incident which happened on Bangerter Highway near 10300 South Friday afternoon.
Richard Gomez, of West Jordan, was killed in the crash. Police said Gomez was approaching a red light at 10400 South when he lost control and was thrown from the bike.
Gomez was not wearing a helmet and suffered fatal head injuries in the crash.
Winkler said no other vehicles were involved in the incident and investigators are looking into whether speed was a factor in the crash.
“Although traffic was lighter as people stayed home, the warmer weather is bringing more people outside,” Winkler said. “Many motorists still drive distracted. We implore motorcycle riders to please use a helmet. The use of a helmet may have saved Mr. Gomez today.”
Southbound Bangerter Highway was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash.
BANGERTER HIGHWAY HAS REOPENED. More information to follow on the crash.
