DUTCH JOHN, Utah – A body was located by search and rescue crews in Daggett County, and officials said they believe it was the body of missing camper Leonard Corby “Corb” Fisher.
Fisher, 44, was last seen in the Brown’s Park area of Daggett County earlier this month and was reported missing on April 4.
“Based on the location and the belongings found at the scene, we believe the body is that of Mr. Fisher,” said Daggett County Sheriff Erik Bailey. “On behalf of my office and the searchers involved in the effort to find Mr. Fisher, I extend my sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
Search efforts began on April 5 but were discontinued due to limited resources, officials said.
Active search efforts for Fisher resumed on Saturday with teams from Uintah County, Utah, and Moffat County, Colorado, assisting in the search.
Those efforts were stopped on Sunday due to inclement weather and resumed on Monday, when crews found the body before 11:30 a.m. about two miles from Fisher’s last known location.
Crews said they found a wallet with Fisher’s Colorado driver license inside.
“I’m grateful to the search crews from Uintah and Moffat counties who volunteered their time and talents to help us with this search,” Bailey said. “I also appreciate the other searchers from Utah and Colorado who were planning to come to Daggett County today, before Mr. Fisher’s body was found, to help us continue the search.”
Bailey said there did not appear to be any obvious evidence of foul play and the body was sent to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death and officially confirm identity.
