SheTech Holding Virtual Conference For Girls Interested In STEM
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Each year the Women Tech Council brings thousands of girls together to be inspired by STEM opportunities and women leading in the tech industry, and they’re not letting coronavirus stop them from holding their 2020 event.
They’re holding the SheTech Explorer Day virtually. While it will look drastically different, the mission is still the same.
For the past seven years, the Women Tech Council has hosted SheTech Explorer Day, an event bringing thousands of Utah girls together to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
“We created this live virtual summit,” said Cyndi Tetro, president of the Women Tech Council. “It’s a block of two hours where everything is created in these live sessions and we’re coming together, we can collaborate, we’ve done a bunch of super cool things in the schedule for the day.”
The summit will feature 200 female mentors working with the girls through live workshops and a tech challenge.
“They’re actually doing private sessions with tech mentors. We’re running them through this common scenario. Then they’ll be judged, and then live prizes in the next session,” Tetro said. “They really get these opportunities to meet industry mentors.”
One industry role models at She Tech Thursday is one we have all come to know: Dr. Angela Dunn, state epidemiologist from the Utah Department of Health.
Tetro said over 17,000 young women have engaged in STEM in Utah over the past eight years.
