WASHINGTON CITY, Utah – Police arrested and charged 32-year old Bradly Scott Hunt with murder following a shooting in his yard Thursday night.
Court documents show police were called to the scene on the 300 block of Huntington Hill Drive in Washington City at 10:30 p.m.
The victim was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. He later died at Dixie Regional Medical Center.
Washington City Police identifed him as 38-year old Christopher Montgomery.
The documents say Hunt fought with Montgomery earlier in the day.
“Bradly (Hunt) was told that the male victim retrieved a firearm from his own residence and then left the area,” said a probable cause statement. “Bradly stated his father put a shotgun near the front door in case the victim returned to their residence.”
Later that night Hunt was in the backyard with three other people when he heard his dogs barking.
“Bradly (Hunt) reported that he observed the victim (Montgomery) trying to get in a window. Bradly (Hunt) then stated that he grabbed the shotgun, opened the front door, and then fired a shot at the victim,” the document described.
One of the witnesses in the yard told police that Hunt said he shot the victim, according to the police report.
Court documents show Hunt is a convicted felon who is restricted from possessing a firearm.
Hunt is charged with homicide, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility.
