Utah High Schools Get Creative To Send Off Seniors

May 12, 2020, 6:58 PM | Updated: Jun 13, 2022, 4:55 pm

PARK CITY, Utah – Graduation plans are taking shape with a different look at high schools across the state.

With schools closed and social distancing measures still in effect, administrators were doing their best to honor the Class of 2020.

It has been an emotional year for students as schools closed early and seniors found out they were missing out on time with friends and the anticipated traditional graduation.

Some schools were rolling out the red carpet.

“This is where it all begins, Wasatch High seniors, you’re going to walk up on the stage,” Wasatch High School Assistant Principal Ryan Bishop demonstrated in a video produced to show students the graduation walk-through procedure that was modified for social distancing.

It showed students they will park in the faculty lot and will get screened at the door to make sure they are feeling well.

Then they’ll make their way to the commons area where they’ll walk the red carpet up to the stage.

Curious about what students from our Class of 2020 are experiencing as they participate in the steps for our virtual graduation? We invite you to experience it firsthand with Assistant Principal Ryan Bishop as he guides Senior Reagan Walker through the process. Reagan is an honor roll student who participated on the WHS Rodeo Team. She plans to study Marine Biology at BYU Hawaii and serve a church mission.

Graduates will record an introduction video and grab a swag bag on their way out, setting the stage for the ultimate senior moment.

“And then on May 20, this is going to be the most awesome virtual graduation in the state of Utah,” Bishop said. “Dubs out Wasatch.”

At Olympus High School in the Granite School District, banners went up on the fences to honor each senior. Cars will drive by and check them out.

The banners will be up through May 22.

It is fun to see the creative ideas schools are coming up with to honor these seniors — they certainly deserve it.
