Motorcyclist Dies After Head-On Crash With Wrong-Way Driver In Midvale

MIDVALE, Utah – A motorcyclist died after a head-on collision with a vehicle Tuesday morning, police said.
The incident happened at 7200 South and State Street shortly after 5:30 a.m.
Sgt. Melody Gray with Unified Police Department said a vehicle was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when it collided with a motorcycle. The 81-year-old motorcyclist was transported to the hospital where he later died of his injuries.
Another vehicle trying to turn right on State Street was also involved in he crash. The driver was transported with minor injuries.
Gray said the driver of the vehicle going the wrong direction is currently in custody, and police said intoxication may have played a part in the collision. The driver did not suffer any injuries.
Southbound lanes were closed in the area Tuesday morning as authorities investigated.
Gray said she wants to remind everyone that driving under the influence is never worth it, and someone has now lost his life because of it.
The identities of the victim and the driver who was taken into custody have not yet been released.
