SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Effective June 1, Utah Medicaid now covers COVID-19 testing and services for uninsured residents, the state health officials announced.
According to the Utah Department of Health, the program will last through the duration of the public health emergency.
“Covered services include COVID-19 testing, as well as serological tests to determine the presence of the virus antibodies,” according to a UDOH statement. “Related services covered include the administration of the test and evaluations related to testing, such s x-rays.”
To qualify, an individual must be uninsured and meet residency requirements, officials said. Residents are considered uninsured if they are not enrolled in a commercial group or individual health plan. They also cannot be enrolled in another federal health care program, such as Medicare or Veterans Health Administration.
A UDOH representative will determine an applicant’s eligibility. If approved, the individual will receive a Medicaid card within a few days and coverage will begin on the first day of the application month. Officials said it may take up to 30 days for a decision to be made.
