OGDEN, Utah – Officials announced the upcoming Ogden Pioneer Days Celebration and Rodeo have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s the latest of many events to be postponed or canceled in the state, including some of Utah’s biggest annual events, such as the Stadium of Fire and the Days of ’47 Parade.

“Since 1934, Ogden Pioneer Days Celebration and Rodeo have been held to commemorate our statehood as well as honor those who sacrificed so much to establish our beloved communities here in the Intermountain West,” according to a statement from the city.

On Tuesday, organizers said they have been tracking the coronavirus impact on the celebration since the pandemic started earlier this year.

“The Ogden Pioneer Days organization, working jointly with the mayor and city officials, feel strongly as a group that applying an abundance of caution this year is the right choice,” officials said.

The Pioneer Days festivities were scheduled to run from July 11 through July 24. Among the canceled events were several concerts, parades and rodeos.

Organizers say they have already turned their attention to planning for the 2021 celebration.

Utah Cowboy Hall of Fame induction — July 11

Ogden Pioneer Days Horse and Hitch Parade — July 13

Ogden Pioneer Days Special Kids Rodeo — July 14

Miss Rodeo Utah Pageant (Miss Rodeo America previously canceled) — July 20 – 24
