8 New Deaths, 325 New Cases Of COVID-19

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The Utah Department of Health has reported eight new deaths and 325 new cases of COVID-19.
It’s the second time Utah has reached eight deaths in a single day, the first time being May 19.
Of the eight deaths, six were Salt Lake County residents:
- Female, older than 85, long-term care facility resident
- Male, older than 85, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
- Male, older than 85, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
- Male, older than 85, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
- Male, older than 85, Salt Lake County resident, long-term care facility resident
- Male, between 18-60, Salt Lake County resident, hospitalized
One was a Weber County resident:
- Female, between 60-85, long-term care facility resident
One was a Washington County resident:
- Female, between 18-60, hospitalized
There have been a total of 139 death and 13,577 confirmed cases, according to UDOH.
Of the confirmed cases, 988 required hospitalization. There are currently 130 patients hospitalized in Utah for the coronavirus.
The state has issued 258,786 tests, and 5.2% of those tests came back positive.
At a Thursday press conference, state epidemiologist Dr. Angela Dunn said Utah has been experiencing an uptick in cases. Some areas are seeing a larger spike than others, but confirmed cases are growing statewide.
“We still need to make sure we are wearing masks when social distancing isn’t possible,” she said. “Please wash your hands.”
An estimated 7,935 patients have recovered.
